Harlem Native And Grizzlies' Assistant GM Williamson Passes Away
MEMPHIS (CBSNewYork) - Memphis Grizzlies' Assistant General Manager Kenny Williamson passed away on Tuesday at the age of 65.
Williamson, a native Harlem, N.Y. was battling an advanced form of cancer. The Grizzlies released an official statement on their website on Tuesday.
Affectionately known as "Eggman," Williamson was a highly-regarded figure around the basketball world. He worked as a scout for the New York Knicks for six season and spent time as an assistant coach at St. John's, Seton Hall, Columbia and Louisville universities. Williamson spent time as an associate head coach at Iona and Florida State.
He spent three years as a key scout for the Charlotte Bobcats before serving as the Grizzlies' Assistant GM for six years.
Williamson was heavily-involved with events at Harlem's famous Rucker Park including the Entertainers Basketball Classic. He is survived by his wife, Nicole, as well as five children and four grandchildren.
