CBS Research Engineer, Television Broadcasting Pioneer Hank Mahler Dies At Age 84
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- CBS2 is remembering a pioneer in television broadcasting who was part of our family.
Hank Mahler, a CBS research engineer for 60 years, invented the color bars familiar to us. Those bars are used to calibrate TV monitors and verify signal paths.
He was also part of the CBS technology group that designed the first audio loudness meter as well as slow motion and freeze frame technology.
Mahler passed away in Newtown at 84 years old. We in TV all owe Hank a lot.
