Hackers Steal $600K From Jersey Shore Town's Bank Account
BRIGANTINE, N.J. (AP) -- Computer hackers managed to steal $600,000 from a New Jersey shore town's bank account.
Officials say $200,000 still hasn't been recovered.
TD Bank notified Brigantine on Tuesday that multiple wire transfers had taken place from its account.
Police say someone was able to get a user name and password. Authorities say a virus or a fake Web page set up to mimic the bank's real one might have been used to carry out the thefts.
State Police and the FBI are assisting the investigation.
Mayor Phil Guenther tells The Press of Atlantic City he's confident the city will recoup its losses, either through insurance or some other means.
The bank says it was able to reverse about $400,000 of the fraudulent transfers.
