Fuel Spill, Would-Be Jumper Tangle GW Bridge Approaches For Hours

FORT LEE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A tractor-trailer accident snarled traffic on the George Washington Bridge and beyond early this afternoon. The accident and subsequent fuel spill tangled all the roads leading to the bridge from the New York and New Jersey sides. The accident happened shortly before 12:30 on the outbound upper level of the bridge.

The Jersey-bound lanes were completely closed for nearly two hours before two lanes were periodically reopened.

As if the traffic problems weren't enough, at about 2 pm today, Port Authority police on the GWB responded to reports from passersby of a man on the railing, on the eastbound upper level, mid span near the NY Tower.

PA Police Officer Juan Guzman located the man, and brought to safety.  He was transported to Columbia Presbyterian hospital for treatment, he was uninjured.

Ironically, this incident occurred right before David Wildstein, the admitted architect of the Bridgegate scandal, took the witness stand in the trial of two former allies of Gov. Chris Christie.
