Gun-Wielding Man Shot Dead By Police In Suffolk County
SHIRLEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police returned fire and killed a man who allegedly began shooting at officers in Shirley overnight.
AS WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the unidentified man was in the yard of a house at 163 Carlton Dr. East in Shirley around 11 p.m. Friday when he began firing at officers, police said. Police had been called after neighbors heard the man yelling about Mayor Michael Bloomberg while holding a shotgun.

When police came up to the rear of the home, the man came to the door wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with a shotgun and began firing at the officers, police said. The officers ducked for cover and returned fire.
"He was met with gunfire from the police, and died at the scene," said Suffolk County police Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick.
Detectives believe they know the identity of the shooter, but it had not been released Saturday afternoon.
Officers were on the scene investigating for hours, and streets were blocked off with yellow tape.
