Ground Broken On I-95 Widening Project In Norwalk
NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork) - Hardly a rush hour goes by that traffic reporters aren't talking a big backup on I-95 around exits 14 and 15 in Norwalk.

Now, at last, something is being done about the problem, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.
Work began Wednesday on a project to widen the highway and add a lane in that area.
This will make a tremendous difference during rush hour, according to project supervisor Steve DiGiovanna.
"By expanding the highway to a fourth operational lane, the traffic that wants to get off in Norwalk can get in that lane earlier, which allows thru-traffic to go by without any hold up," he told Schneidau.
While the project should eventually make the drive smoother, there will be construction slow-downs and the project isn't scheduled for completion until 2015.
DOT officials said that when the Connecticut Turnpike was built back in the 1950s, engineers never anticipated the incredible volume of traffic that would build 50 years hence.
Today, there are 130,000 trucks and cars trying to squeeze through the area.
