Gridiron Grub: Spicy Oyster Crackers
Grill, check. Array of delicious food items to be grilled, check. Hunger, check.
You’re ready to begin cooking at your tailgate, but your stomach is telling you you’re hungry now. Ease hunger pangs by bringing along tasty snacks to tie you over until your grilled menu is ready to be served and eaten. Chips and dip are an obvious tailgating snack, but why not mix it up and prepare your crew a bag of spicy, buttery, melt-in-your mouth oyster crackers, just like grandma used to make?
Spicy Oyster Crackers
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Bake Time: 25 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy
Yield: 8 cups
Ingredients:
- 8 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- One-fourth teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- One-half teaspoon garlic salt
- One-half teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley, crumbled
- One-half teaspoon dried thyme, crumbled
- One-half teaspoon dried dill, crumbled
- 1 (16-ounce) package oyster crackers
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Then melt the butter in a microwave and stir in the spices with the melted butter. Pour the crackers into a large bowl and drizzle with the butter mixture. Toss the crackers around a bit until each is well coated. Then, place crackers on a parchment-lined sheet pan. Bake for 25 minutes, repositioning the crackers with a soft spatula about 10-15 minutes in. Once the pan has been removed from the oven and the crackers are completely cooled, transfer them into whatever container you're bringing to the tailgate.
