Greenwich, Conn. Private School Teacher Accused Of Sexual Assault
GREENWICH, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A private school teacher surrendered to police in Greenwich, Conn. On Tuesday, following allegations that he'd had sexual contact with a child at the school.
Michael Maida of Danbury, Conn. surrendered eight days after Stamford Superior Court issued a warrant on charges of sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor – both felonies, Greenwich police said.
The warrant was issued following an investigation of "past inappropriate conduct between Maida and a child under the age of 16 while under his instruction" at a private school, police said.
CBS Connecticut reported Maida taught at the Convent of the Sacred Heart school, which includes grades K-12. Maida has reportedly taught there for 17 years and the alleged incident happened in 2009.
School officials said they found out about the allegations in January when the investigation began, CBS Connecticut reported.
Police did not not provide any details of the allegations or when the alleged incidents happened. Police said no further information will be released.
Maida was released from custody on $50,000 bond, and was due in Stamford Superior Court on March 18, police said.
