Greenburgh Cracks Down On Unpaid Tickets
GREENBURGH, NY (WCBS 880) - Back in 2003, Darren Gopie got a ticket for allegedly not wearing his seat belt in Greenburgh.
But the Yorktown man has no memory of this ever happening.
That's why the town of Greenburgh sent him a court summons - in 2011 - telling him he had to pay this ticket.
"I thought it was a joke," he says. "There's got to be some statute of limitation on this thing. How long could this go for?"
This has been the norm in Greenburgh as the new court administrator goes through thousands of old tickets.
Town supervisor Paul Feiner says there could be millions of dollars worth of unpaid tickets out there, but Gopie says that doesn't seem fair.

"In a sense, they were holding me hostage because I couldn't go and argue this thing cause I don't remember anything about it," says Gopie.
That's why he's still trying to get the $110 he paid back.
