Graphic Fight Between Lower Manhattan High School Girls Caught On Video

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A graphic video has surfaced, showing a fight between two girls at a public high school in Lower Manhattan.

The cell phone video taken last Thursday showed two girls throwing their fists at each other, before one of them ends up on the ground, at Murry Bergtraum School for Business Careers, 411 Pearl St.

The New York City Department of Education told CBS 2 there were actually two separate fights among girls last Thursday. Other students reportedly left class to watch the fight, the department said.

The NYPD has issued nine summonses and one youth desk appearance ticket in response to the fight, CBS 2 reported.

The school has had a recent history of violence. Back in November, two school safety officers were injured in an attack committed by students, according to a DNAInfo report.

The month before, four students were arrested and charged with attempted arson, after the two boys and two girls were allegedly spotted trying to set a textbook on fire, the publication reported.

And a year ago, another fight at the school made the headlines after appearing in a YouTube video. That fight involved multiple students, and the video appeared to show a teenage girl striking a police officer, the publication reported.

The school also made headlines in 2010 when principal Andrea Lewis decided to close all the restrooms to students, after what students said were two fights that broke out during class. Crowds of angry teens rushed the halls and screamed in protest over the policy change.

The school is located across from the back of One Police Plaza, and alongside the Brooklyn Bridge.
