Grandson Arrested In Connection With Shooting Of Lodi Woman, 85
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting of an 85-year-old woman at her northern New Jersey home.
Olga Bariso was found around 6:20 a.m. Sunday after Lodi police responded to reports of a shooting at a Union Street residence in Lodi, officials said.
Joseph C. Bariso was arrested Monday, officials said.
He allegedly shot Olga Bariso multiple times as she lay sleeping on the living room couch, prosecutors said.
Bariso, who lives in the basement apartment of the Union Street home, then fled with a handgun taken from the home-- which has not yet been found, prosecutors said.
He was found by the Rutherford Police Department walking along Rutherford Avenue at approximately 1:15 p.m. and subsequently interviewed by detectives.
Olga Bariso remains in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Neighbors wondered if drugs had anything to do with the shooting. They said heroin has become a big problem in the area.
Bariso is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, Dec. 31 on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and hindering apprehension.
He is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail after bail was set at $2,000,000.
