Gov. Christie: Reminder, Super Bowl XLVIII Is In NJ!

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is reminding the world that the Super Bowl will be played in his state this weekend.

Christie weighed in Monday on recent comments by New Jersey politicians who say the state was getting slighted in the NFL's promotional game materials.

Christie said he wanted to "remind his friends in New York" that the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks arrived Sunday at Newark Liberty International Airport and are staying and playing in New Jersey.

"They did not land at LaGuardia Airport. No they didn't," Christie said during a NY/NJ Host Committee press conference in Newark. "God knows, they did not land at JFK."

Christie said visitors were free to go to New York and enjoy "a couple of good restaurants, and some theater and stuff to do." But he added that game announcers on Sunday "are not going to say live from New York City, because that would be a lie."

Some N.J. lawmakers say the NFL hasn't endorsed any of its events, leaving the Garden State out of the spotlight and in the cold.

"It's just not a feeling of … it's almost like not wanting to be here," Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli told CBS 2.

Secaucus was forced to dub its pre-game bash "Winter Blast" because the NFL hasn't recognized their event, and therefore they can't use the official name "Super Bowl." East Rutherford, the home of MetLife Stadium, is throwing a party called the "The Meadowlands Tailgate Event."

"It's a double-state Super Bowl, but New Jersey seems to be getting the short end of the stick on it," Gonnelli said.

The game is scheduled for Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium.
