Gov. Christie Goes To Bat For 'Team Boomer' In Celebrity Softball Game
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — WFAN co-hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton gave New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie a break from budget showdowns for the chance to hit one out of the park.
The governor, a frequent guest on the "Boomer & Carton" show, participated in the fourth annual Bombers Boomer Broadway Softball Classic on Monday at Yankee Stadium against a long list of sports greats.

Wearing No. 55, in honor of being the 55th governor of New Jersey, Christie caught the ball to make a crucial out at third base in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and his team went on to eke out a 7-6 win.

It was the latest, lighthearted showing of Christie's maneuverability and malleability in recent weeks, punctuated by his now-famous dancing routine on the "Tonight Show," CBS 2's Scott Rapoport reported.

The Bombers Boomer Broadway Softball Classic featured celebrities facing off against the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team and New York Yankees alumni.
Christie was a catcher in high school and said he continues to be a big baseball fan.
"I'll let my play do the talking. Let's leave it at that," Christie joked.
He told reporters as he warmed up before the game that he was happy to have a break from Trenton. He said he hoped he wouldn't get injured.
He also said he'd rather be at Citi Field — home of his beloved Mets.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan, former general manager Mike Tannenbaum and a host of other celebrities participated in a Boomer & Carton charity softball game against the NYPD in April.
