Gov. Chris Christie Declares Jan. 11 Clarence Clemons Day
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An honor from one big man to another.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has officially declared Jan 11 as Clarence Clemons Day.
Clemons was Bruce Springsteen's sax player and original member of the E-Street Band. Known as "The Big Man," Clemons died of heart complications as a result of a stroke in 2011. He was 69.
Christie, an avid Springsteen fan, has been to over 130+ Springsteen shows, and ordered the flags to be flown at half-staff at the time of Clemon's death.
The resolution to give the big-time saxophone player his own day was proposed by New Jersey Sen. Jennifer Beck.
"The New Jersey Shore would not be the same without the music of Bruce Spingsteen's E- Street Band," Beck said.
"The E-Street Band would not have been the same without the sound of a saxophone played by Clarence Clemons."
