Gov. Andrew Cuomo: Polarized Washington Makes Albany Look Good
ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the near shutdown of the federal government last week is in stark contrast to the bipartisan success seen recently in Albany.
Cuomo says if anything, the conflict in Washington between Democratic President Barack Obama and the Republican Congress makes him proud of the cost-cutting and on-time budget delivered in Albany.
He says Albany faced many of the same pressures as those in Washington, although to a lesser degree. He says officials in Albany worked through some very tough issues without the polarizing fight seen in Washington.
Cuomo was part of Democratic President Bill Clinton's administration when it squared off in 1995 against Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich, forcing a shutdown.
Cuomo made his remarks near Buffalo after signing a bill to provide lower cost energy to employers.
