Gotham Gossipist: 'Real Housewives' Meets 'Jersey Shore' For New Brooklyn-Based Reality Show
By Kimberly Rae Miller
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- With the last season of MTV's Jersey Shore currently in production, other networks are clamoring for the opportunity to marginalize entire nationalities of people for being trashy, too. Gotta love America
The next lucky network to hop on board is Lifetime, who recently ordered twelve episodes of Russian Dolls, a show that will focus on Russian-Americans living in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.
But don't turn on the show thinking that all you're going to see is young, hot people drinking. You'll see old hot people drinking too, according to Lifetime.
"Unlike MTV's youthful hit, Brighton will have a multi-generational cast that better reflects Lifetime's audience. The show will chronicle several colorful families, with the show's action centered on a popular local nightclub," the network said.
So basically what we're talking here is Real Housewives meets Jersey Shore in a manner sure to make Brooklyn out to be the class capital of the world. As a resident of the great borough of Brooklyn, I would like to thank the Lifetime network in advance for decreasing our property values.
Comedy Central is also in the process of developing a show called Party Down South, a Southern-based show that's being pushed as a comedy instead of a reality show.
Russian Dolls debuts Aug. 11 at 10:30 p.m. Consider yourself warned.
