Good Samaritan Restores Palisades Park Church's St. Nicholas Statue
PALISADES PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A vandalized statue of a saint outside a New Jersey church has been restored by a good Samaritan.
Parishioners were outraged when the head of the beloved statue outside the St. Nicholas Church in Palisades Park was knocked off by vandals earlier this month.
Officials believe the head was smashed with a rock and the staff was also broken off. The saint's head was found in pieces in some bushes.
A local painter heard about the damage and stepped in, restoring the decapitated fiberglass statue.
St. Nicholas is a Fourth Century bishop, who inspired the legend of Santa Claus. He is the patron of children, sailors and people in need.
No arrests have been made.
The investigation is ongoing.
