The Westchester County Board of Legislators has voted to override County Executive Rob Astorino's veto.
There's now no spectator fee for county residents and a $10 fee for non-county residents.
"It especially affects grandparents. They'd like to watch their grandchildren's delight as they go on the rides and it seems a bit onerous to ask them to pay for that privilege when they're already paying property taxes," says county legislator Judy Myers.
She says the override was the right move for Westchester.
"It's worth making a mid-course correction," she says. "I personally do not believe that you should ever have to pay to go into any park. Parks are one of the many things that government and public policy can offer up."
Meanwhile, Astorino's office calls this a direct hit on taxpayers and essential services.
