Going Green: Riverside Park Eyes Compost Toilets
NEW YORK (AP) -- One of New York City's most popular parks plans to install compost toilets that will produce fertilizer for its greenery.
Riverside Park administrator John Herrold says the carbon-neutral complex would be the first public bathroom of its kind in a New York City park. The Bronx Zoo and the Queens Botanical Garden already have them.
The Riverside Clay Tennis Association is raising funds to design the building.
The city's Parks and Recreation Department is endorsing it for a state planning grant.
It's hoped the facility can be built by the summer of 2012.
