GLEN COVE, NY (WCBS 880) - When Reverend Elizabeth Simpson looks at the same sex couples every Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove, she sees lots of love.

Although Simpson hopes she is not defrocked, she has decided to marry one of the same sex couples next March in the church.

"I will make myself vulnerable to accusations or indictments, so to speak, from within the Presbytery," says Simpson. "My feeling is since just recently the church changed its mind about ordaining gays and lesbian people that I think eventually that [they will] change their sense about what marriage is."

She said the congregation approves of her decision.

"Just isn't even a question for most of our people. 'Of course they can get married' kind of thing. It's liked 'Of course! Why not? What's the big deal!?'," Simpson told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.

This coming Sunday is the first day that gay marriages will be legal in the state of New York.
