Giuliani Daughter To Serve The Community
NEW YORK (CBS 2/1010 WINS/AP) -- Caroline Giuliani, the daughter of former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, was whisked away in a black SUV after appearing in a Manhattan court Tuesday to answer to shoplifting charges.
1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reports the 20-year-old Harvard University theatre student took a plea deal, and instead of a year in jail, she will perform one day of community service, and her criminal record will be wiped clean if she stays out of trouble for six months.

The Manhattan district attorney's office said the resolution of her case was standard policy for first-time, low-dollar-value shoplifting arrests -- not a special deal for the daughter of the former federal prosecutor turned law-and-order mayor and Republican presidential candidate, who made cracking down on petty crime a centerpiece of his tenure at City Hall.
"Stay out trouble and avoid rearrest,'' Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Jennifer Schecter told Giuliani.
Giuliani was accompanied by her mother and step-father Tuesday. They did not answer questions after leaving the courthouse.
Giuliani was charged with petty larceny earlier this month for allegedly stealing $100 worth of makeup from a Sephora store on East 86th Street while she had $300 in her pocket.
Detectives said store workers have Giuliani on surveillance video stuffing the items into her jacket pockets, even though she reportedly also had hundreds of dollars in cash in her pockets.
A motive was unclear, as was the question of whether she was simply acting out.
Police said store managers initially indicated they didn't want to press charges against her, but the cosmetics company said in a statement that it aided prosecutors in their investigation.
The company, part of Paris-based luxury goods giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, declined to comment on the resolution of the case.
Shortly after his daughter's arrest, Rudy Giuliani released this one sentence statement: "This is a personal matter and Mayor Giuliani asks the media to respect the privacy of his daughter at this time."
Caroline Giuliani is the younger of the former mayor's two children with Hanover, his ex-wife and a television reporter and actress. They had a bruisingly public split while he was in office -- Hanover famously found out he wanted a divorce when he announced it at a press conference. The ex-mayor has since remarried and asked for privacy to deal with his family relationships.
It wasn't immediately clear where or when Caroline Giuliani would perform her community service. She's due back in court Nov. 4 to show proof that she has done her volunteer work.
