Girl, 3, Struck And Killed By SUV In Flushing, Queens
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A driver was questioned by police Sunday, after a 3-year-old girl was struck and killed while walking with her grandmother in the Flushing section of Queens.
Police were dispatched around 5:35 p.m. to the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Main Street, near the Queens Botanical Garden, after the girl was found lying unconscious with severe body trauma.

The girl -- identified by the Associated Press as Allison Lao of Queens -- and her grandmother were headed east on Cherry Avenue trying to cross Main Street, when the child was struck by a 2000 Nissan sport-utility vehicle turning left from Cherry Avenue to head north on Main Street, police said.
As 1010 WINS' Gary Baumgarten reported, police said Allison broke free from her grandmother. But several witnesses claimed the grandmother was not paying attention.
"She was eating watermelon by herself, and she was not caring about the child – the child; where she's going," one witness said.
A passerby performed CPR on the girl, but to no avail.
"I cleaned her mouth out and started CPR, and then while I was doing CPR, there was another guy who was up here on the sidewalk and so I asked him to help, and he came down and he gave chest compressions while I gave her mouth-to-mouth," said witness Rick Hall.
Allison was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver remained on the scene, and was taken into custody and questioned afterward, police said. No charges had been filed as of just before midnight Sunday night.
