NY Officials Prepare Meals For The Chronically Ill Ahead Of Holiday Season
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer paid a visit to nonprofit God's Love We Deliver on Sunday, chopping vegetables alongside volunteers for delivery to those too sick to cook for themselves.
"These are people who would not have a meal otherwise," Brewer said. "And they wouldn't have a healthy meal."
God's Love We Deliver provides free meals to thousands of people with chronic illnesses in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey. According to their website, the organization cooks 5,500 meals every day and has delivered more than 1.4 million meals so far this year.
These meals are especially important around the holiday season, WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported.
Brewer also took a tour of the organization's new Soho headquarters on 6th Avenue, which opened in June.
"God's Love We Deliver had been around for a long time, but this beautiful new building gives them the opportunity to serve even more." Brewer said.
