Giants Rank 4th On Forbes' Most Valuable NFL Teams List; Jets No. 6
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Forbes has released their annual rankings of the most valuable teams in the NFL, and the Giants and Jets both cracked this year's top 10.
Big Blue placed fourth with a team value of $1.55 billion. They ranked behind the Dallas Cowboys ($2.3 billion), New England Patriots ($1.8 billion) and Washington Redskins ($1.7 billion). The Giants averaged 80,495 fans per game in MetLife Stadium last season, more than any other team besides the Cowboys, according to Forbes.
The Jets came in at sixth on the list with a team value of $1.38 billion. They were bumped from the top five by the Houston Texans, who boast a value of $1.45 billion.
The Oakland Raiders posted the lowest team value in the league at $825 million.
The NFL has proven to be the most lucrative professional sports league in the world. Out of all 32 teams, the average worth is estimated by Forbes to be $1.17 billion, a five percent increase from 2012. The increase in the average worth of teams was mainly caused by the increase in league revenue, Forbes reported.
The average league revenue per team was $276 million in 2011, the publication said, adding that last season showed an increase in the average per team by 3.6 percent to $286 million.
