Giants To Face Cowboys On Road In Week 1; Manning Bowl III Follows At Home
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The Giants will play three of their first four regular-season games on the road, kicking off the season with a Sunday night game in Dallas on Sept. 8.
The Giants' home opener will be the following weekend against the AFC West champion Denver Broncos, marking the third matchup of Eli and Peyton Manning.
"A unique challenge is the opener with Dallas two years in a row -- and this time we're on the road," coach Tom Coughlin said. "Then we have Denver at home, which is the obvious matchup, and we're on the road two weeks in a row. It's interesting that Dallas and Carolina are in the same spots they were last year, first and third.
"I will say this: here comes the challenge again. We didn't play as well last year on the road as we had in previous years and so that's a great challenge for our team."
Coughlin's team will play five prime-time games, and it won't face the NFC East champions Washington Redskins until playing twice in December.
Besides the opener against Dallas, the other prime timers are Thursday night at Chicago on Oct. 10 followed by a Monday night game on Oct. 21 at home against Minnesota. New York also plays Sunday night games at home against Green Bay (Nov. 17) and at Washington (Dec. 1).
"When I looked at the schedule the first word that came to mind is 'challenge,'" said Coughlin. "The schedule presents us with many challenges, because of the outstanding teams we play and the way it is set up. Anytime you're in the NFC East and you're playing the AFC West and the NFC North, you're going to be faced with a challenging and competitive schedule."
