Giants' Cruz Done For The Season Following Knee Surgery
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Simply put, it just hasn't been the Giants' year.
Playing out the string at 5-9 after suffering numerous injuries earlier in the season, Big Blue announced on Thursday that wide receiver Victor Cruz would miss the last two games of the regular season following knee surgery.
Cruz injured his left knee and suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss to Seattle. He underwent an arthroscopic debridement of the knee on Thursday afternoon. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla., the team said.
Cruz, in his third season out of UMass, finished with 73 receptions for 998 yards and four touchdowns, but prior to getting injured last week had not scored since Sept. 29 at Kansas City.
The Giants' passing game has struggled all season. Quarterback Eli Manning has thrown an NFL-high 25 interceptions and starting wideout Hakeem Nicks has not found the end zone all season. Nicks realistically has a shot at 1,000 yards, but needs 206 over the last two games.
The last time Giants did not have a 1,000-yard receiver was in 2008.
New York travels to Detroit on Sunday before closing the season next week at home against Washington.
