Giants, Braves Reportedly Scouting Joba Chamberlain
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --The San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves have sent scouts to watch Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain in recent days, according to the New York Post.
Chamberlain is in the final year of his contract with New York and could be available on the trading block.
Chamberlain was watched Friday by Braves scout Jim Fregosi and then again Monday by Lee Elder of the Giants, the Post reported. The 27-year-old pitched a scoreless inning in each game.
The right-handed reliever-turned-starter-turned-reliever has been limited in recent years due to injuries. He's appeared in 143 games since the start of the 2010 season, all out of the bullpen.
Chamberlain is 1-0 with a 5.75 ERA this season, giving up 25 hits and four home runs in 20.1 innings.
The Texas Rangers dispatched scout Don Welke to watch Chamberlain this spring, the Post reported in March.
