1010 WINS' Medical Corespondent Dr. Brian McDonough said more people need to be cutting calories and keep the blood flowing.
"We gotta really be getting up and moving around," McDonough said.
Bike messenger "Angelo" told 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer that he sees a lot of people sitting around.
"Smoking and eating greasy food," he said.
Other New Yorkers also weighed in on the study on Thursday.
"I don't think it's the sitting necessarily, just people are inactive too much. They need to get off their butts and do something," one man said.
"Actually when I sit down too long, my knees hurt. I don't think it has anything to do with cancer," one woman said.
