GW Bridge Goes Pink For Breast Cancer Month

FORT LEE, NJ (WCBS 880) - The 156 LED necklace lights of the George Washington Bridge will shine in pink this month.

The bridge, which connects Fort Lee, New Jersey to Washington Heights, Manhattan, will begin honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month Friday night.

The necklace lights, or cable lights, are purely decorative and workers climbed on to them to install pink gels on each light.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the bridge, will also add a pink hue to the exterior of the control tower at JFK International Airport in Queens.

October has been recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month for the past 26 years.

The Fort Lee Historic Park will be open late (until 8pm) on Friday, October 1 for viewing. On all other days, the park closes at dusk.
