Kevin Millar: George Steinbrenner Flipped Off Red Sox Team Bus In 2003
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- We all remember how it went down.
In Game 7 of the 2003 American League Championship Series against the Red Sox, Aaron Boone hit a dramatic walk-off homer in the 11th inning off Tim Wakefield, sending the Yankees to the World Series.
After the thrilling finish -- which extended the Curse of the Bambino -- then-Yankees owner George Steinbrenner gave Boston' team bus a pair of middle fingers.
Kevin Millar, who played for the Red Sox from 2003-05, told the story on The Dan Patrick Show on Tuesday morning.
"You look back on it now, it's hilarious," Millar, now an analyst for the MLB Network, told Patrick. "That's funny. Back then? I think we all wanted to jump out and choke somebody out."
After beating the Red Sox, the Yankees would go on to lose to the Marlins in six game in the Fall Classic.
Boston got its revenge against the Yankees a year later, becoming the first team in major league history to erase a 3-0 playoffs deficit. After dropping the first three games, the Sox won four straight and advanced to the World Series, where they swept the Cardinals for their first title since 1918.
