Geese Collide With Bus On NJ Turnpike; Driver Hurt
MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) -- Passengers aboard a double-decker bus got quite a scare Saturday when some geese crashed into the vehicle as it traveled on the New Jersey Turnpike.
But they say their driver's skill spared them from serious injury.
State police say the driver, Andre Sweeney, sustained minor injuries in the incident, which occurred around 11:25 a.m. in a northbound lane in Mount Laurel.
But no passengers were hurt.
Sweeney was driving a New York City-bound Megabus that had departed earlier in the day from White Marsh, Md. The trip had been uneventful before at least one goose smashed face-first into the windshield, cracking and destroying it.
The bus jolted as Sweeney got glass in his eyes, but he was able to control the vehicle and soon stopped at a rest stop about 2 miles away.
A relief bus soon arrived and took the passengers to New York.
