Gardner Avoids Arbitration, Signs One-Year Deal With Yankees
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - The Yankees announced Friday that outfielder Brett Gardner and the club have avoided arbitration. The speedy 29-year-old has agreed terms on a one-year contract worth $2.85 million with the Yankees.
Gardner can earn $150,000 in performance bonuses under Friday's deal: $25,000 each for 375, 400, 425, 450, 475 and 500 plate appearances.
Gardner, 29, only took part in 16 regular season games in 2012. He batted .323 with 0 home runs, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.
An elbow injury hampered Gardner's regular season. Gardner underwent elbow surgery on July 24, but was able to play three games during the ALCS. He did not record a hit during the series.
Gardner is a career .266 hitter. He earned $2.8 million in 2012.
