Funeral To Be Held For Mount Vernon Police Officer Killed In Wrong-Way Crash
MOUNT VERNON, NY (CBSNewYork) -- A funeral will be held today for Mount Vernon police officer who was killed in a wrong-way crash on I-95.
Hundreds of fellow officers turned out to honor Officer Reginald Velez at his wake Sunday in Yonkers.
He was off-duty last week when he left the Pelham Bay Diner in the Bronx, driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-95. His car hit a truck and burst into flames.
"The greatest son I could ever want in my life, he's going to be missed by everyone," said Velez' father.
Investigators have still not said how Velez wound up driving in the wrong direction.
He was 29-years-old and engaged to be married.
