Funeral Held Near Philly For Family Slaughtered In Westchester
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral service for a woman and children killed in their home by their husband and father.
Police in Cross River said Sam Friedlander beat his wife Amy to death with a piece of furniture before shooting and killing their two young children, Gregory and Molly.
"There are no words to describe the anger that many of us feel. The absolute lack of justice that brings us to this place. On this day," a rabbi said.
While the family did not speak publicly and cameras were not allowed in, they told reporters CBS 2 could record the audio so people would know the love that surrounded Amy, Molly and Gregory.
"My sister. My best friend. Amy. I can't believe you're taken away from me so soon," said Jill Gabora. "It pains me to think I couldn't have protected you from this. My only solace will be in knowing that you are finally at peace with your loving children."
There was no mention of Sam Friedlander. In this part of Bucks County, in Pennsylvania, where Amy grew up, they were the Perez family.
"She was always willing to stop what she was doing and help me. She would often say to me, 'Remember Ed: I'm the nice Perez'," said brother-in-law Ed Gabora.
A couple of the young cousins spoke about Molly and Gregory. One boy recalling how Gregory loved the Yankees and how they had bought Yankee gifts for Hanukkah that would now rest with Gregory.
"So we laid down beside him a signed A-Rod baseball and a Derek Jeter jersey card," the cousin said.
There were allusions made to how Amy seemed to flourish once the decision to part from Sam Friedlander was made, but no one said these things directly.
Sam Friedlander's body still has not been claimed at the Westchester Medical Examiner's Office by his family.
A memorial for the family will be held this week in Westchester.
