Underground Pathway System Linking Fulton Center Subway Hub, PATH Trains Opening Thursday
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A new access point opening Thursday will link nine subway lines with the PATH train at the World Trade Center.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that at 5 p.m. Thursday, an underground passage will open connecting the Fulton Center transportation hub's Dey Street Concourse to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's World Trade Center station.
Pedestrians will also be able to reach Battery Park City, One World Trade Center, and Four World Trade Center through the pedway.
The 350-foot-long Dey Street Concourse runs under Dey Street between Broadway and Church Street, and links Fulton Center – which serves as an access point for the Fulton Street No. 2 and 3, No. 4 and 5, A and C, and J and Z train stations – and the Cortlandt Street R train station.
The MTA said the subway-level link to the World Trade Center PATH station is a vital connection for commuters, who will no longer have to walk down heavily-trafficked surface streets and the World Trade Center construction site.
The connection will also provide new options for customers with disabilities, who can use one of the 10 escalators and 15 elevators at Fulton Center to access the PATH station, which is also fully accessible, the MTA said.
