From Borough To Borough, New Yorkers Get Into The Act Of Earth Day
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It's Earth Day, and New Yorkers are getting into the act.
The New School and the Bronx Zoo are among 11 winners sharing more than $4.5 million in green infrastructure grants announced by mayor Michael Bloomberg on Saturday. The money is for such things as green roofs that help cut down sewage overflow during heavy rain.
Meanwhile, in Brooklyn, Midwood High School senior Priscilla Consolo got some 250 kids to clean up the neighborhood.

Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker Street also got into the spirit of the day, celebrating with special cupcakes. For each cupcake sold, a dollar is donated to city parks.
And of course, what would Earth Day be without an event at the Javits Center? The convention center hosted the first ever NYC Green Festival. Authors and educators were on hand for the event, and a multitude of workshops were given.
