Freight Train Nearly Hits Stalled Tractor Trailer In NJ
BERGENFIELD, N.J. (CBS 2) -- A tractor trailer and freight train had a close call in Bergenfield, New Jersey Monday night when the tractor trailer got stuck on the tracks.
Police say the tractor trailer was making deliveries when it stalled on the New Bridge Road railroad crossing and got stuck on the freight tracks. The driver fled from the vehicle as a CSX freight train approached, but the train was fortunately able to stop in time.
The train conductor is checking to see if all of the cars are still attached after the abrupt stop of the train.
Traffic in the area has been diverted, as nearby crossroads remain closed while they're obstructed by the long train. Train traffic also remains halted until further notice on the CSX NI Division River Subdivision in both directions.
Police have ordered a heavy-duty tow truck to remove the tractor trailer.
