The Knights of Columbus hall in Lindenhurst is just a few blocks from where homes were torn apart by superstorm Sandy.
The Knights' Bob Dobres told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall that they can accommodate over 500 people for Thanksgiving and they want those who join them to feel like family.
"The Knights of Columbus, one of our principles in fraternity," he said. "The response has been terrific, especially for volunteers. We had to stop taking volunteers. We had to stop taking food."
In Massapequa, Manor East will serve Thanksgiving meals and in Island Park, another hard-hit area, Sacred Heart Parish Center is expecting hundreds of people for Thanksgiving dinner.
Meals will also be served at the Freeport Recreation Center in Freeport and by the Red Cross at State Trooper Fabio Buttitta Memorial Park in Deer Park.
