Francesa: Retiring Or Not, A-Rod Nearing End With Yankees
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Alex Rodriguez announcing that he plans to retire after the 2017 season -- or did he say that? -- is a "non-story," WFAN's Mike Francesa said on his show Thursday.
Francesa said he believes that whether A-Rod calls it a career or not, he is entering his final two years with the Yankees.
"There's zero story there," Francesa said. "I don't think anybody anywhere who is a fan of the Yankees, covers the Yankees, watches the Yankees, observes the Yankees ever thought that there's any way that any of those big-name players would ever be back on the team past where their contracts expire."
Francesa was also referring to Mark Teixeira, Carlos Beltran and CC Sabathia.
Would A-Rod consider playing for another team after 2017?
"You never say never because somebody out there might be nuts enough to give him a fortune, so who knows?" Francesa said. "But barring something like that, I don't think so."
Rodriguez will turn 42 next season.
