NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Even though New York is one of the few states in the nation to recognize same-sex marriage, St. Sen. Daniel Squadron points out that the federal government still doesn't.

"Unfortunately, even in New York, same-sex married couples don't have all of the rights that other married couples do," he says. "That's true in everything from survivor benefits to Social Security and pensions to health care to immigration status to what happens if you were to move to another state that doesn't yet have marriage equality."
Squadron says he will join other lawmakers and activists at a public forum called "After I Do" to answer questions and talk about the challenges gay married couples face.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Jerrold Nadler have already drafted bills to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, also known as DOMA.
The forum is being held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Borough of Manhattan Community College, Richard Harris Terrace, 199 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10013.
