Former Mayor Dinkins Released From Hospital
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former Mayor David Dinkins was out of the hospital and back at home Wednesday night, after a week of treatment for pneumonia.
Dinkins, 86, was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital on Oct. 30. But by Tuesday, he was walking the hallways, greeting people, reading the papers, watching the news and signing letters, law partner and adviser Peter Johnson Jr. said.
The former mayor was also able to vote on Tuesday, CBS 2 reported.
Upon his release, doctors ordered Dinkins to spend the next 10 days to two weeks in bed resting, CBS 2 has learned.
Dinkins was the first black mayor of New York City. He defeated three-term incumbent Mayor Ed Koch in 1989, but served only one term before being defeated by Rudolph Giuliani four years later.
Dinkins teaches at Columbia University.
