Former Mayor Dinkins Hospitalized With 'Mild Touch Of Pneumonia'
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins has been hospitalized with pneumonia.
Dinkins' law partner and adviser, Peter Johnson, says the former mayor is being treated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
Dinkins was the first black mayor of the nation's largest city. He served one term, from 1990 to 1993.
Johnson says Dinkins was admitted on Wednesday night after experiencing difficulty breathing.
Dinkins teaches at Columbia University. His assistant, Linda Hamilton, told WCBS 880 the former mayor was admitted with a "mild touch of pneumonia" and that he "sounds wonderful" when they spoke Thursday morning.
Johnson says Dinkins, who is 86, keeps a "breakneck schedule.'' In addition to teaching, the former mayor also supports various charities.
He noted Dinkins hosted an event this week for Democratic mayoral candidate Bill De Blasio.
