Former New York Jets quarterback Ray Lucas says that's life in the National Football League.

"There was one hit in particular where I was sacked," Lucas told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell. "I was put into the ground on my shoulder and my head went one way, my shoulder went the other."

Lucas believes that play led to chronic unbearable pain.

That's why he feels the NFL needs to protect players' heads "because somebody is going to die on a head-on hit."

Four weeks ago, the 33-year-old Lucas had neck surgery that he says gave him his life back.
