Former Jets O-Lineman Brandon Moore Retires At 33
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former Jets offensive lineman Brandon Moore is calling it a career.
The free-agent guard told FOXSports.com he was walking away from the game -- and a contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
"I was wrestling with it all night. I was excited, but when you start looking at all the personal factors that go into it and the commitment on the football side and you've been in a different mental state also the past three or four months because no action's been happening, you kind of move on with your life," Moore said. "I was happy with that and fine with that. ... But you map out the logistics of it all -- the physical and mental commitment, the tear on your family ..."
The casual fan will remember Moore as the big guy on the receiving end of Mark Sanchez's infamous "Buttfumble." But for Jets fans, Moore was an O-line mainstay who spent his entire 10-year career with Gang Green and started all 16 games in each of the past eight seasons.
Moore agreed to a one-year deal with the Cowboys on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. He would have been reunited with Dallas offensive coordinator Bill Callahan, who served as Jets offensive line coach from 2008-11.
"In the bigger scheme of things, it's about me, my happiness and my family," Moore told FOXSports.com.
Moore, 33, signed with the Jets in 2002 as an unrestricted free agent. He was selected to the Pro Bowl under Callahan's tutelage in 2011.
"I'm a man of my word. I hated letting Bill down," Moore said. "He put the word out to get me there, and I have a lot of respect for him. But I know the Cowboys will move on. They moved on from whoever they moved on before me and they'll move on to somebody else. The game goes on."
