Former Coney Island Roller Coaster Site For Sale

NEW YORK (AP) -- The former 3-acre site of a roller coaster at Coney Island is back on the market.

The Wall Street Journal says owner Horace Bullard has put the now empty Thunderbolt site up for sale. He tried to sell it last year but didn't find a buyer. The site is zoned for retail and hotels.

Bullard is the founder of the now defunct Kansas Fried Chicken chain The Thunderbolt was torn down in 2000.

In 2009, the Bloomberg administration rezoned the 19-block Coney Island area and purchased seven additional acres for the development of hotels, amusement parks and 5,000 housing units.

Last year, Luna Park became the first new amusement park to open in Coney Island in decades. Scream Zone, another amusement park, is scheduled to open this summer.
