Former CBS News Correspondent Richard Threlkeld Killed In Amagansett Car Crash
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Richard Threlkeld, a former CBS News correspondent, was killed in a car crash this morning.
East Hampton Town Police say Threlkeld, 74, was heading north on the Cross Highway at around 8:18 a.m. when his Mini Cooper crashed with a propane tanker.
Threlkeld was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, 57-year-old Earl Fryberger Jr., was not injured in the crash.
East Hampton Town Police are asking for witnesses to the accident to call them at (631) 537-7575.
Threlkeld worked for CBS News for more than 25 years. He was a regular contributor to the CBS Evening News and Sunday Morning. He covered the Vietnam and Persian Gulf wars, among other conflicts.
