Fog Blamed For Major Delays At All New York Metro Airports
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- All New York metro area airports were experiencing major delays Monday afternoon due to heavy fog in the area.
Traffic management programs were instituted Monday afternoon for Newark International, John F. Kennedy International, and LaGuardia airports. At JFK, the program resulted in delays for arriving flights averaging 2 hours and 7 minutes as of 4:45 p.m.
Arriving flights at LaGuardia were delayed by 1 hour and 27 minutes, and at Newark by 1 hour and 50 minutes.
The fog also caused delays averaging a whopping 2 hours and 35 minutes at Philadelphia International Airport, and 42 minutes at Teterboro Airport.
The National Weather Service reported Monday afternoon that areas of fog will persist for the first half of the evening, ahead of an approaching cold front. Visibility will be around one mile in many locations, but less than half a mile in some areas.
Conditions will improve overnight when a gusty northwest flow develops behind a passing cold front, the NWS said.
