Rick Seaney with farecompare.com says "Procrastination isn't going to help you this year because there's going to be no empty seats. There's no reasons for airlines to discount."

There are 600,000 fewer airline seats this holiday season than there were last year.

Seaney says the average fare is $40 higher than a year ago.

"It's all about survive, contract, consolidate, merge, cut back," said Seaney.

Tom Parsons of bestfares.com thinks the priciest trip will be cross-country.

"If you're going to Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego, we are seeing those airfares pretty inflated," Parsons said.

Parsons says, however, that if you want to go to Europe, you can get a steal.
