Flooding Shuts Down Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The Newark Liberty International Airport train station was shut down Wednesday evening due to a flood.
The station, which serves NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak trains, was flooded when a sprinkler head broke, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The Port Authority and NJ TRANSIT have been running shuttle buses between Newark Penn Station and the airport. NJ TRANSIT has dispatched 62 buses, and the Port Authority has added supplemental vehicles.
AirTrain tickets were being honored on all buses to and from the airport.
The Port Authority urged airport travelers using the train systems to leave additional time so they can arrive for their flights.
As of 7 p.m., Port Authority staffers were working to fix the pipe, and clear the flooding on the overpass that connects the rail link platforms and the AirTrain Newark station.
They hoped to restore operations on the Northeast Corridor rail link by Thursday.
