Fleet Week New York Guide 2011
It's back! Fleet Week has served as an unofficial kick-off to summer in New York City nearly every year since 1984. Approximately 3,000 Navy sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen sailed back into Manhattan this week for this year's event. Here are some of the week's highlights. Visit The Ships
Thurs. May 26 - Tue. May 23
Pier 88 (at 48th St and 12th Ave.)
U.S. Navy ships USS Iwo Jima, USCGC Willow and USCGC Tampa will be open for public visitation for the duration of Fleet Week. A fun family or individual activity, you can meet the sailors and soldiers that work and live aboard the ships.
Military Day In Times Square
Fri. May 27
9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Static military displays take place all day, with a Marine Corp Band performance at 2 p.m. and a Navy Band Northeast Jazz Ensemble performance concluding the day at 5 p.m.
Marine Day In Battery Park
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The day includes displays of US Marine Corp equipment, as well as some demonstrations.
